Data Science in Health and Rehabilitation

Roundtable

Data Science in Health and Rehabilitation

Saturday 26 September 2020 – Welfair Plenary
13.30 – 14.15

According to the official definition of the European Community, “Big Data in health refers to large data sets collected periodically or automatically, which are stored electronically, reusable for the purpose of improving the performance of the health system.” It is in this area that Data Science is playing a crucial role, representing an interdisciplinary sector that uses scientific methods, processes, algorithms and systems to extract value from data. Machine learning and data mining are two distinct areas of data science. All this in medicine can be fundamental because every patient can become an example of Big Data from which to derive interesting regularities or “patterns” on which to base clinical decision making.
